Molding, Plumbing and Kitchen

Arch took some time to work on the molding today... his ideas about adding some additional molding elements turned out so beautifully. It really was missing something, but now is complete looking. Can't wait to see what everything looks like painted and stained.

The few days before Thanksgiving were full working days at the house... we got so much covered and completed... a kitchen formed before our eyes within three days!

The counter tops really make the kitchen pop and come together... it's crazy how the space used to be bare for so long, and how everything really just did come together the way it did. It took many, many, many trips to Home Depot and Lowes, but it was very much worth it.

Counter Tops!

Got to pick some counter tops today from Counter Top Depot... Arch's childhood friend's Father runs a company out in Chantilly. The cool part about this experience, was we got to pick from a selection of scraps and found exactly what we were looking for. A beautiful jet black colored piece of quartz, with gold flecks in it. The color goes superb with the black fridge, and wrought iron shelf brackets, plus the gold flecks bring out the colors of the floors, and wall colors.
Even got to watch as they cut a piece...

Water Filtration Tanks

A big pain in the butt were the water filtration tanks sitting in the furnace room/clothes washer area. Heavy. In the way. Non-functional for me. It would have been as simple as adding an elbow, but I didn't want to mess with it and instead contacted the company themselves to get an estimate..$250 is what they quoted. For a second opinion, I had F.H. Furr come over for another estimate and they quoted $427!!! What is going on here??? I told the plumber about the quote I had received prior and he said he would lower the price to $350... so, somewhat lower price than originally quoted and he was already there ready to do the work and get the tanks out of there... it was a deal.

The worst part, other than the money that was spent? It took him 20 minutes and one copper elbow! I've learned my lesson... can you say, plumbing lessons? Here I come!

New Stove

I have been searching for a stove for some time now... for some reason, I don't want any old stove you can walk into the store and purchase, but something with a story, small and compact, old looking. I finally found it on Craigslist! Out of the Logan area in DC! Everything I wanted and more for $40 bucks! Can't beat it.

Washing Machine Woes

We had the washing machine all hooked-up and running, but Arch noticed the floors beginning to peal upwards... we found out the washing machine had been leaking all this time... the drain pipe was clogged-up with lint, etc. So, after a snaking and switching out of the knobs... it looks nicer and drains properly.

Sitting Room Light Fixture

Finally got around to hanging the new sitting room light fixture... turned out pretty nice.
I like the color, but am thinking about spray painting it a bronze... will have to wait and see how it looks with the furniture and paint color...

The Tree is Shedding

Fall time means raking leaves! Luckily, I only have one tree in the front yard. The pile ended-up being pretty small.

Pantry Complete

I had to go out and get replacement Bi-Fold door hardware, but it was worth it... check out the new pantry doors.

Wainscoting

Finished the floors in the "laundry room area," and continued working on the wainscoting in the kitchen... had a few frustrating moments, which pushed back our progress a bit, but in the end we were able to get quite a bit done. -J
